Inspired by a friend leaving an abusive relationship, ’House The Hurt’ explores why humans hold themselves in toxic situations. Self-produced with layered strings, drums, harp, trumpets and vocals, this is the final single from Monique Clare’s debut album ‘Sight’.

lyrics

I see you for who you are
I see you for who you ought to be
And I worship your darkest traits
The things I hate somehow taste sweeter in you
But the part that scares me the most is that I know
You could push it a little too far
I feel we're coming close

Tell me that you care for me
And I'll eat it all up
I'll swallow those words
'Cause even though you're mean to me
I am strong enough to house the hurt

In the middle of the night I feel a sense of calm
A sense of peace
And I've come to love the people living above
As they wait up watching the TV
Now I live through them
Living through the people on the screen
Because I'd rather be a washed out of them
Than all of me

Tell me that you care for me
And I'll eat it all up
I'll swallow those words
'Cause even though you're mean to me
I am strong enough to house the hurt

And all my friends tell me I've gotta get out
But if I lose your hate I also lose your love
And all my friends tell me I've gotta get out
But if I lose your hate I also lose your love

So tell me that you care for me
And I'll eat it all up
I'll swallow those words
'Cause even though you're mean to me
I am strong enough to house the hurt

Tell me that you care for me
(And all my friends tell me I've gotta get out)
And I'll eat it all up, I'll swallow those words
(But if I lose your hate I also lose your love)
'Cause even though you're mean to me
(And all my friends tell me I've gotta get out)
I am strong enough to house the hurt
(But if I lose your hate I also lose your love)
